Leprechauns

Today was the worst school day ever for Maya. That's what she told me on our walk home from school and again as she sulked on the couch when we arrived home.

It's all because of a leprechaun who has been vandalizing her class all week. Vandalizing is her word, sort of. I don't think she knows that word, but if she did, that's what she would call it.

A leprechaun made a mess in her classroom one day this week "and we had to clean it up!" she said. Another day, it scribbled all over the poem that went up on the Smartboard "and we couldn't even read the poem!" Another day it turned over the chair of one of Maya's classmates and wrote a note that said "How are you going to sit now?"

For Maya, all of this playfulness has been downright mean but today's actions were too much.

All of the kids in her class had set traps to try to catch the leprechaun. They didn't catch him, but most of the traps had been flipped over. Maya's teacher sent me a note that Maya was really upset by the fact that the leprechaun had ruined her trap. She cried into my shoulder after school when she told me about it. She still wasn't happy about him tonight when she went to bed.

I'm a little nervous to see her reaction tomorrow when she finds green water in the toilet.
